Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
