Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was convicted of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a precautionary step after "new facts" were revealed.

This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who serves as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on online platforms on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I call on you to fight with us."

He said the vigil would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's determination was the chance of the former president's "relocation to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a history of organizing to ask for protection through a consular facility", a announcement said.

The court filing emphasizes that the American diplomatic mission in the national capital, Brasilia, is located around 8 miles from his dwelling.

Worldwide Consequences

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative US President Trump, prompting him to enact a half-rate duty on goods coming from Brazil.

He is being held in a national police facility in Brazil's capital city and will have a detention review on Sunday.

Recent Judicial Appeals

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under home confinement, with tracking devices.

They also petitioned that the former president be authorized to leave his home for healthcare, saying he demanded ongoing care for lung conditions and other ailments.

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the presidential race to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Supreme Court justices said that he was aware of a plan which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been overseeing the former president's case.

The plot was prevented because it didn't receive the backing of the army and air force commanders. Lula was inaugurated without issue on the first day of 2023.

But a seven days after, on January 8th, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged official structures in the capital, Brasília.

The security forces intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were detained.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the moment, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.

The former president called the legal proceedings a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him running in the 2026 presidential election.
