Arrests Made in Connection to Massive Illegal Rubbish Dump
A pair of individuals have been arrested as a component of an inquiry into the dumping of several thousand of tons of rubbish in a rural field in Oxfordshire, England.
Authorities stated that a 69-year-old was apprehended at a dwelling in the town of Andover, while a 54-year-old was arrested in the town of Slough in connection with the enormous pile of garbage tipped near the area of Kidlington.
These apprehensions occur a week after a prior revelation which uncovered the operation of in excess of 500 unauthorized tips across the country of England, including at minimum 11 so-called "large-scale sites" bigger than 20,000 tons.
A spokeswoman for the environment body stated that the arrests were for ecological and proceeds of crime offences and represented a "crucial step" in ongoing investigations. Both men have been set free on conditional release.
Size of the Situation
The illegal site in Kidlington, located between the River Cherwell and the A34 highway, is thought to house about 21,000 tonnes of rubbish in a pile which is up to 150m (490ft) in length and 6m (20ft) high.

Preparatory operations to clear the affected dump commenced in recent weeks amid concerns over the potential of combustion and the consequences that would have on the adjacent A-road.
A commercial waste clearance contractor has been awarded the contract to remediate the area over the next 12 months period at a expense of £9.6m.
An investigations official for the country's regulatory team stated that the agency would be aiming to claim back the clearance costs under confiscation acts from anyone successfully convicted at the termination of its current case.
She further stated that these arrests would help "push the inquiry forward" and permit the agency to "follow more avenues to understand exactly what transpired and who was involved".
"The illegal site at the site was an atrocious and calculated affront on our natural surroundings and the authorities share the public's outrage at this egregious act," she remarked.
A cabinet representative supported the arrests, adding: "This unlawful tipping of garbage at Kidlington is disgraceful and has resulted in significant detriment to the environment and upset to the nearby residents.
"Our authorities is committed to eliminating this category of crime throughout the UK, by increasing funds to address illegal dumping, hiring more staff and implementing stricter checks and penalties for those who flout the law."
The apprehensions were made on the specified day by personnel from a regional organised crime unit and follow an prior apprehension of a 39-year-old from the Guildford area area in the autumn. He was let go subject to additional enquiries.
